OUR mission

To promote awareness and understanding that not only does science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) matter, but a child's emotional climate matters. Healthy social-emotional child development begets life-long health and opportunity for achievement.

OUR VISION

Is for all children to feel secure in their relationships with schools, peers, families, and health providers in order to get their needs met in the various settings where they must depend on adults.

OUR GOAL

Is to promote and improve students’ attitudes and beliefs about themselves, their relationships with others, and their education. We aim to meet this goal by prioritizing and advocating for policy that serves to foster the following five core social and emotional competencies put forth by (CSEFEL):

  1. Self-awareness – To process one’s own thoughts and feelings, and learn how to express them to others.
  2. Self-management – To control one’s own emotions and behaviors in different contexts and environments.
  3. Social Awareness – To empathize and understand people from various backgrounds or cultures, as well as internalize social norms of behavior.
  4. Relationship Skills – To build and maintain meaningful relationships with others by active and healthy communication.
  5. Responsible Decision Making – To make constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions.

OUR Guiding Principal

“Almost 80 percent of (middle and high school) students ranked [their own] achievement or happiness over caring for others...Any healthy civil society…depends on adults who are committed to their communities and who, at pivotal times, will put the common good before their own. We don’t seem to be preparing large numbers of youth to create this society.”
